More Than A Mother

More Than A Mother
By Jeff Bishop

You raised me, you guarded me, you watched my back;
You bailed me out and you picked up my slack.
———∞———
You encouraged me to go for the things that I want;
You discouraged me from caring what others have thought.
———∞———
When tough times have come, and I’ve seen my fair share;
The one thing I knew is that you’d ALWAYS be there.
———∞———
———∞———
You’d protect me and tell me what you thought was best;
Then have patience to wait while I’d sort through the mess.
———∞———
You’ve been a strong shield and you’ve served as my sword;
But the best thing you’ve done is shown me the Lord.
———∞———
He gives me the strength to still stand here today;
And to always push forward, come what may.
———∞———
———∞———
The patience, creativity and the love in my heart;
YOU placed these in me right from the start.
———∞———
There are many things I like about ‘me’, but it’s true;
I would have NONE of them, without first having you.
———∞———
You were all I could have asked for, all a mother should be;
But you were so much more than just a mother to me.
